ART CLUB CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I. Name:  Art Club

ARTICLE II. Purpose and Goals:

Section 1. Purpose:  

A.To expose members to art related topics above and beyond the classroom.
B.To instill within members an active knowledge of professionalism in the field of visual art.
C.To provide a setting for fellowship and visual growth for students of the visual arts.\

Section 2. Goals:

A.Present exhibitions of members' artwork on campus and in the local community.
B.Work on art related projects.
C.Provide interaction of members with other artists and people interested in art.
D.Provide forum for discussion of art related topics, inspiration,and critique of artwork.

ARTICLE III.  Membership:

Section 1. Eligibility:

A.Open to students of Amarillo College that are currently enrolled for at least 3 semester hours.
B.Open to persons connected with Amarillo College in an official capacity, but this is a non-voting status,and they cannot serve as officers of the club.
C.Open to alumni of Amarillo College. This is a non-voting status, and they cannot serve as officers of the club.

Section 2.  Selection Process:

Open to all Amarillo College students and alumni and persons affiliated with Amarillo College in an official capacity that meet the eligibility requirements set fourth in Article III, Section 1.

Section 3. Attendance:

A.Members must attend at least one bi-monthly meeting per month to maintain active voting privileges.  Members should notify an officer or the sponsor if there are circumstances beyond their control that are preventing the member for attending the meetings.
B.Members must participate in or contribute to at least 50 of the club's activities per semester to maintain active voting privileges.

Section 4. Removal Procedures:

Members will be dropped to non-voting status from the art club after missing four consecutive meetings without notifying an officer or the sponsor.

ARTICLE IV.  Officers and Duties:  Art Club Officers are elected at the beginning of the fall semester.

Section 1. President - Chairs and organizes the meetings and oversees committees.

Section 2. Vice President - Assists the president in organizing the meetings and overseeing the committees.

Section 3. Secretary - Takes minutes for official meetings, attendance at official meetings, and assists with completing forms and paperwork for the art club.

Section 4. Treasurer - Handles the funds of the art club by making deposits, keeps financial records, organizes the art club budget, collects dues and completes the necessary financial statements required for the art club.

Section 5. Historian - Assist sponsor in recording club events to compile in the club scrapbook and the club website.

Section 6. Advisor - Oversees meetings and activities of the art club and assists officers in duties.

ARTICLE V.  Quorum Requirements:  At least one half of the members of the art club must be in attendance for it to be an official meeting.

ARTICLE VI. Finances:

Section 1. Dues and other incomes:  

A.Dues are $5.O0 per semester.     
B.Art club will have various fundraising projects throughout the year.
C.Sales of members' artwork through the art club - each sale will be charged a 20% commission that will go back to the art club.  The artist will be responsible for paying the hosting gallery's commission if applicable.
D.Art club will apply for campus funds available for students or student organizations, and propose grants for art club funding.

Section 2. Expenditures:

A. Art club will use funds for framing materials for frames to present members' artwork in art club exhibitions.  The frames and framing materials will remain the property of the art club and will be returned to the art club after the exhibition.  Frames and framing materials of the club will go to the most active members first.  Depending on the availablity of frames or framing materials, some members may be required to supply their own frames and framing materials to participate in a club exhibition.
B. Art club will use funds for meeting and project expenses as need arises.
C. Art club will use funds for student travel on sponsored field trips.
D. Art club will use funds for guest artists and art related professionals to give presentations to the art club.


ARTICLE VII.  Ratification and Amendments of Constitution:

An art club member may bring up a proposed amendment to the constitution at an official meeting.  A two third vote by the art club members present at that meeting in favor of the proposed amendment is required to put the proposed amendment up for vote.  The proposed amendment will be formalized in writing by a committee chaired by the art club member that proposed the amendment.  At the next official art club meeting, a vote will be taken on passing the proposed amendment.  A majority vote of the present art club members is required to pass the proposed amendment.  Then a copy of the approved amendment must be submitted to the Student Activities Office.
